Editorial Policy

This policy explains how content on New Zealand Finance is created, where our information comes from, and how we handle accuracy and corrections. Our goal is to publish clear, useful, general information that helps New Zealanders understand their financial options.

What we publish

We produce plain-English guides, comparisons and explainers about personal finance in New Zealand — loans, mortgages, KiwiSaver, insurance, tax, savings, and related topics. Everything we publish is general information, not personalised financial advice (see our Financial Disclaimer).

How we research our content

Our content is researched from publicly available information, with a focus on primary New Zealand sources — including:

  • the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) for interest rates and monetary policy,
  • Inland Revenue (IRD) for tax and KiwiSaver rules,
  • the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) for financial-conduct and advice regulation,
  • and providers’ own published information for product details.

Because financial products, rates and rules change frequently, information can go out of date. We link to official sources where we can, and we encourage readers to confirm current details directly with the relevant provider or authority before making a decision.

Accuracy and corrections

We take reasonable care to be accurate, but we don’t claim to be error-free, and some of our content may not always reflect the very latest changes. We’re actively working to keep our information current, and we genuinely welcome corrections.

If you spot something that’s wrong or out of date:

  • please tell us via our contact page, ideally with the article URL, the specific issue, and a source if you have one;
  • we aim to review and, where needed, correct material errors as promptly as we can.

Our content and commercial relationships

New Zealand Finance is funded through affiliate and referral partnerships (see How We Make Money). You should assume that where we feature or prominently link to a provider, we may have a commercial relationship with them. We aim to provide useful, accurate general information regardless — but our site is best used as a starting point, alongside your own research and direct comparison with providers, rather than as a comprehensive or fully independent comparison of the whole market.

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy as our processes evolve. The current version is always available on this page.
